Moreover there isn't any "camparina" barrier.
The so called "camparina" barrier is that array of yacht, galleys, and sailing ships which occupies the whole sea horizon of pleasant spots such as the Costa Smeralda. This white and noisy barrier is many kilometres wide and is nicknamed "camparina" because on each boat there are elegant and bored people who drink Campari. That is the way they live upon the sea. It is impossible to bath in the moorings, you would be strangled, and if you go too near to a boat you could be shot! In the Sinis there is not such a barrier and (it could seem incredible) it is possible to bathe everywhere, the water is clean, even though sometimes the Mistral brings some souvenirs from Spain.
There are historical beaches such as Sa Mesa Longa, Is Arutas, Is Arenas, Mari Ermi, there are the prehistorical dunes of Capo Mannu.
There is sand which is white like sugar whose reflection can roast a German in forty seconds. There are cliffs from which you could dive as if you were in Acapulco, you could catch morays from their tail and look at the quadrille of lobsters. In fact one of the greatest dangers for the traditional tourist in the Sinis is the fresh fish.
Will your stomach be able to stand the delicious mullets from Cabras, the clams from Marceddì, the dentexes and lobsters from Su Pallosu, being accustomed to frozen fish such as eighty years old basses or Bastoncini Findus? Will you be able to face the well-known pool of the one thousand claws of oncle Cuccu, where hundreds of lobsters and crayfishes live in peace, and where many tourists fell and were torn ( according to the legend!). Will you resist the soup of conger and the burrida of devil-fish? And what will you say when you see the great nuraghi ( be careful they are not fishes!).
Not to mention the rivers and the plains where the most famous Italian western films were taken; places which are very similar to Arizona where there aren't Bill and Jack who ride, but Collu and Puddu, the best sardinian knights in the world. And what about dangerous animals? If you climb on the mountain of Seneghe tens of wild pigs come to you to sell you the famous healing water.
In the ponds it is possible to take pictures of flamingos in lustful sittings. In the sky and on the water cormorants, grebes, wind fanners, stilts-birds, marrangau (the home hummingbird) and stained “camulli” fly. Foxes lie in wait for your picnic.
There are a lot wild rabbits, quails, hedgehogs, weasels, beech-martens and the famous white hippopotamus of the salt-mines, which can never be seen because it soaks in the mud, but I assure you it exists.
And what about the scents? myrtle, helichrysum, juniper, dill, mixed grill, the pan with the sheep meat inside, the strong cheese.
And for those who like the risk there are the extreme adventures such as footing at midday in the wide salt-mines of Sale Porcus, jumping from the high rocks of Capo Mannu and surfing in the bay; riding on the horse Concheferru among the dunes and the pinewoods of Is Arenas; going along the paths of the Omodeo lake searching the Great Perch Bass; reaching Su Pallosu, the sardinian Tortuga, magic land inhabited by pirates and coral dealers, hunters of “camulli” and chefs of moray croquettes.
There are no VIPs but you will meet happy, nice and proud people; I've been coming here for twenty-five years and I would not change these places for anything in the world, I've never seen a better sea, from Cuba to Riccione, from Comore to Idroscalo. When you are in the hammock, at the sunset, while a lobster plays launeddas for you while you are drinking vernaccia and breathing the smell of ELICRISO and pork and in the sky a flock of flamingos draws the word "welcome" (they're perfectly trained!) and suddenly, as by magic, you won't miss the "camparina" barrier, full of VIPs and overcrowded clubs.
You will have the desire of bathing in the clean water, unless you are allergic.
